Dear Scarlett,

 A post from my blog & some style.

So as many of you may know, I'm super busy with my wedding a week away. Sorry for the lack of posts but I can assure you that many posts are in the works and waiting to be put together. Some home tour posts that have been a long time in the making, some more of this cute babe and of course, wedding details!

Scarlett has been my saving grace this last week. Everything was going well until Monday when bad news started falling on me like hail, pelting me with issues. It is a week until our wedding and I'm trying my best to keep things un-stressful....it's a hard job! That's a post for another day. But Scarlett is the one thing that can make me forget all the silliness that seems so large at times. I took Scarlett for a lunch date today and as we sat down for some sandwiches, a crying baby caught her eye. 

"Mama, the baby's crying" my two year old told me.

"I know. The baby isn't very happy." She watched the baby for a few seconds, turned to me with a face of concern and said, "Mama, that's soooo sad." 

Melt.

She is the sweetest thing I've ever laid eyes on. And the other night, while I fought her to put her pajamas on, (it's a game to her), she kicked me right in the gut. I leaned over in pain and said, "Ouch Scarlett, you hurt Mama." She stopped, she held her arms out and said, "I sorry Mama, I sorry!" I swear this little girl is my saving grace!! I love her more than I can say. And so, as these crazy busy days before the wedding go by, I keep her close to remind me of what love is really all about.

Dear Scarlett, Another post from my blog....

Scarlett's new obsession is music. Since starting dance and song classes, she has taken a liking to melodies.
I find her singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star in her bed at night.
Her little voice right on key.
It fascinates me that a year ago, she could barely walk.
Now, I have a little song bird.

She reminds me of my younger sister when she was little.
Singing every song that she can remember.
Now my sister is a song writer and singer.

I don't allow Scarlett to watch too much tv but one show that I do let her watch is the Laurie Berkner Band. When Laurie comes on, Scarlett stops everything and she is mesmerized.
The guitar strumming and singing captivates her and slowly, she joins in singing.
I'm thankful for music.

Music has always had a huge impact on me.
It's gotten me through some really hard times and some very happy times.
To see it bringing joy to Scarlett makes me smile.
She may look like her Daddy, but she is like her Mama in more than one way.
Coming from a musical family, this makes me happy.

Someone turned 20 months!

Dear Scarlett,

This month, you are 20 months old. I am flabbergasted that in 4 months you will be two.

I am so excited about this!

Here are some photos of you this month. We have been doing a lot. Besides getting settled into the new house, we went to your holiday Christmas Party with your play group, started dance class, & have been practicing your favorite songs: Twinkle Twinkle Little Star & Scarlett's Here Today.

This month, you have grown into such a little girl. On one hand I love that you are such a kind, sweet little baby. On the other hand, you are getting too big :( This makes me sad. 

Where has the time gone?

You are speaking more and more lately. You say things that I didn't even know that you knew. You love your babies & puzzles. For Christmas, you got a new drum & instrument set that you love!

      A lot of times, I sit on the edge of the grass & watch Scarlett play.

The wonder in her face.

Her infectious giggle and her curious eyes.

The way she gravitates towards the swings every time we visit the playground. She loves those swings.

She would stay there all day, swinging & reaching her arms out to catch the wind that hits her face.

She is so small in a giant world. She is merely one tiny girl in a sea of children.

But as I tell her, She is kind, she is smart, she is important.

The possibilities for Scarlett are endless. One day, she might teach someone to love, or make something just in the world, or save a life. She might sing like a lark or paint like Van Gogh. She might dance with  every ounce of passion in her soul or kick a ball with all her heart...

If I could tell Scarlett one thing, I would tell her, 

"The world if full of opportunity. Go be what your wildest heart desires.

Nothing can stop you, sweet girl."

Dressing Scarlett.

Dear Scarlett,
I did this post for my blog but I thought I would share it on here, too.
It will give you an idea of what I dressed you in as a baby/little girl. 
I love shopping. Most gals do.
When Scarlett was born, my love for shopping kept on growing. Now I had two to shop for.
Scarlett's style is as eclectic as mine. I tend to wear whatever my mood draws me to.
I don't have a particular style and this happens to be how I dress Scarlett, as well. Usually, Scarlett ends up wearing an outfit that reflects mine well. Or vice-versa.

I generally don't spend a lot of money on Scarlett's clothes. Sometimes I splurge on a few items that she can use often. But the majority of the clothing that I buy for Scarlett, is inexpensive. I try to find pieces that Scarlett can wear over and over again. For example, Scarlett's Minnetonka's were a bit pricey, but she can wear her moccasins through all four seasons. Mixing and matching also helps save money on buying more than necessary. Sometimes, I put leggings under a dress so Scarlett can wear a dress in colder weather, too. Or leggings under shorts. Style for mini gals doesn't have to be expensive, it's all about deciding what pieces you should splurge on and what items you should save on. I can almost always find a great outfit at a second-hand store for both me and my mini babe. I tend to splurge on shoes and layering basics. I tend to save on items that I know she will only wear a few times (summer clothes that won't fit her next summer). Style to me is important because it reflects personality. Once Scarlett is old enough to choose her own clothes, she can make those decisions. Until then, I'm more than happy to coordinate her outfits for her.
